I graduated High School ten years ago. I would never go back. No way. I hated high school. However, there are things I do miss about that time in my life. Here are a few:
- A life without a cell phone: Believe it or not, back in my day we did not get a cell phone at birth. I was expected to call my mother when I got to a friend’s and I used the landline. I miss the days without a cell phone. Now, people expect to be able to get ahold of me at a moments notice. And for some reason I am looked at as crazy that said cell phone is not glued to my hand. Actually… I don’t know where my phone is currently.
Maybe I should look for it.
- My life was much more musical.
A few days ago, I tried to convince my work to have a musical staff meeting. I don’t think they were impressed. In high school I was in chorus, musical, band… Life was filled with music! But, after high school and if you are lucky college, the musical life dies down. Yes, I still rock out in my car every now and again, yet it’s not the same as making sure I am singing from my diaphragm.
- I believed in Disney.
Ok, I still kinda believe in Disney. However, I also see Disney for what it is. I no longer want to be the ‘girl’ Disney sees as desirable. I’m not good at keeping quiet and cleaning. I wouldn’t give up everything for a man. Sorry Disney-blame my education that made me see the light.
And Beauty and Beast? There is so many things wrong with this love story. Kidnapped? Abused? Threaten? Yes, this is so romantic. Sign me up for the next enchanted beast out there. I am sure I can change him with my ability to read and niceness. OK, it’s still my favorite.
- No Alcohol allowed: Sometimes I wish I could go back to a time where alcohol was not expected to have a good time. I do recognize at the time I couldn’t wait to be 21 because there is obviously nothing to do if you are under 21. However, I always had a good time-without the booze- and I can remember it to this day!
- Old Navy: I go into Old Navy now-a-days and can’t believe I ever liked their clothes. I am not sure if their style changed, or I did. Maybe a little bit of both. Old Navy use to be the cool brand, well at least the one I could afford with my part time job. If I caught a good sale, I could sometimes afford the GAP! And I was so proud of myself for it.
Does anyone miss anything from high school?
Remember when days of the week were just that? A little nursery song you had to learn. The only reason you kept track of what day it was in school was to know how long it was until Friday.
Then, I got to college and thirsty Thursday entered my world. I could handle that. Beer was cheaper that day. And I could even handle Taco Tuesday, because HELLO, tacos.
Now, I feel bombard with different days having different meanings. Follow Friday? Giving Tuesday? Music Monday?
Can’t we just go back to Monday being manic?
Anyway, apparently it is THROWBACK THURSDAY.
I found this picture of my cat photobombing and thought I would share.
I am doing a post of towel animals from my cruise. Don’t judge me (too much).
This post as nothing to so with… anything. Sometimes you just need a silly post. Although, I think this proves the staff on my cruise was very creative!
Ok, I seriously cannot stand those ‘so I know you’re not a robot’ security things. I swear they are getting worse. How can anyone get them? And how does that prove I am not a robot? Because a robot wouldn’t get them wrong?
Wikipedia even states a bunch of people literally can’t view the stupid things:
Because CAPTCHAs rely on visual perception, users unable to view a CAPTCHA due to a disability will be unable to perform the task protected by a CAPTCHA. The groups who commonly struggle with visual CAPTCHAs are:
Sites implementing CAPTCHAs may provide an audio version of the CAPTCHA in addition to the visual method. The official CAPTCHA site recommends providing an audio CAPTCHA for accessibility reasons, but it is still not usable for deafblind people or for users of some text-based web browsers.
I’m not quite sure which one I am. I hope not the last one, since I do have my masters and what would that say about my graduate program?
Anyway, isn’t there a better way to make sure I am not a robot? One that does not excluded a bunch of people and leaves everyone else feeling stupid and annoyed?
We have had hurricanes periodically hit the northeast. I can remember about 4 coming through and me being worried.
I wasn’t here for last years storm, Irene. Or the snowstorm on Halloween that left my family without power for almost a week.
But I am here for Sandy. North easterners earns tend to over exaggerate. Call for an inch of snow and the bread, milk, and eggs fly off the shelves. I swear sometimes the news is partnering with the farms and bread companies to boost sales. However, imagine my surprise when I am out in Flagstaff for my first snowstorm and joke I need to get my milk and bread. blank stares. wait a second, the stores don’t run out of milk when there is a threat of a storm??? Color me confused!
My friend informed me that a snowstorm in like 74 left north easterners stranded for days, some in their cars. Ok so there is some purpose for the madness.
This preparation is by far the worse I have ever seen. They are predicting the power will be out maybe for weeks… They recommend having cash on hand. Generators are sold out and locally there was a waiting list 100 long with a shipment supposed to come in today. There is no bottled water anywhere within 50 miles. Mandatory evacuations of major cities… The entire state of New Jersey in shut down as of 8pm tonight. The glow of the sky tonight was freaky.
The wind has started to pick up. It’s coming. And there is nothing to do but wait.
Banned Book Week
I have to give a shout out to Banned Book Week as a sociologist. I am going to try to find a book on the list that I haven’t read to read this week!
For my graduation, two friends took pictures of me for my announcements! This is one of my favorite. Thanks Nicole and Kat!
